As a Job Seeker, What Should I Expect from my Interview with a Temp Agency?

Posted by , on Feb, 2018

If you have been to traditional job interviews, a staffing agency interview is often not extremely different. However, those differences are important to be aware of in order to make the impression you want. When applying to a temp agency for work, you will often be called in for testing and a formal interview. Doing well is important when you want to be placed by the agency. Here are a few things to consider:

The first thing that the interviewer is going to see is how you are dressed, so it is important to represent yourself as a professional. You want to make a great first impression on both your reputation and that of the staffing agency are both on the line. We suggest that you wear something comfortable. A professional hairstyle, limited jewelry, and minimal cologne and perfume are good options, as well.

For the men, you can’t go wrong with solid color dress pants, white long-sleeved shirt, tie, dark socks, and dark dress shoes. For ladies, you can choose solid colored pants or a skirt, matching shirt, dress shoes, and minimal makeup.

After you’ve passed the first impression “test,” you will likely be required to complete some tests of your abilities and skills. These may vary based on the position you are interviewing for. Here are some of the most common tests:

  • Customer service assessment – this is often a multiple-choice test asking questions about how you would handle certain interactions with customers.
  • Typing assessment – this will measure how many words per minute you can type. Some positions require that you meet certain numbers depending on the position.
  • 10-key assessment – this is a common test for those in bookkeeping or accounting positions and relates to the number pad on your keyboard and your quickness using it. It will also look at accuracy. This is measured in keystrokes per minute or KPM.

Finally, make sure you are prepared to go into the temp agency for your interview. This means having your resume, identification, and list of references. You should also inquire with the agency about any other information they require.

For those in Jacksonville seeking employment, you cannot go wrong with Stafforce. We offer temporary positions with many companies in the area. To find out more about applying, call the office at 904-726-5661 to speak with one of our representatives.
