Let Your Local Moving Services Do the Hard Stuff
Posted by admin , on Jun, 2015
As you get ready to move, you may become a little overwhelmed at all you have to do. It’s a big job, and statistics shows moving as one of the life’s biggest stressors. However, there are some steps you can take to alleviate some of the stress and make the transfer as smooth as possible.
First, start by buying boxes of three basic sizes, small, medium and large. A 16x12x12 box is good for small boxes, 18x18x16 for medium and 18x18x24 for large. The small boxes are going to be best for heavy items like books. Don’t over pack them, making them too heavy to pick up. The medium size boxes are going to be the ones used most often, carrying items like small appliances, pots and pans and children’s toys. Large boxes will house items such as blankets, sheets, lamp shades and clothing. Place bulky, hard to pack items in this box and don’t load it down, making it hard to pick up. While yes, Local Moving Services will have hand trucks, you still don’t want the boxes to break in transit.
Think about your large yard tools such as the lawn mower and weed eater. They need to be drained of fuel and oil before packing them up. If you’re taking your gas grill along with you, plan on having the propane tank purged or carrying it along with you in your car. Check with your Local Moving Services to find out if even empty propane tanks can be sent along in the moving truck.
If you have satellite television, don’t feel like you have to pack up the boxes and dish. Instead, notify the company you’re moving, and in most cases, they’ll advise you to leave the dish and return the boxes. You’ll get new ones at the new location. Run your last load of clothes in the washing machine and dryer and know that the movers will unhook these appliances for you and load them on the truck.
